KuehnFamily.Org website was established in 2008 as a dedicated family website to share my genealogy research with extended family members who were also researching common ancestors. Major surnames include: Kuehn, Rist, Bersett, Roettgen, Mueth, Zinck, Jung, Schaeffer and Wetzer. Most of my U.S.A. ancestors lived in St. Clair County, Illinois and surrounding areas.

I started searching for my ancestors in the late 1970's after watching Roots (TV miniseries). At the time I lived in Connecticut, so my research was limited to family visits while on vacation in St. Louis area. Online research was not yet available. My paternal grandmother was still living and recounted many stories to me while going through her old photo albums. In the early 1980's my research stopped after my mother suffered a near fatal automobile accident, and my grandmother suffered a stroke. I restarted my genealogy research in 2006 only after retiring.

Since restarting my research, I have become acquainted with other members in my extended family who are searching common ancestors. Based on their interest I have established this dedicated website. I appreciate all of the help that they have provided to expand this site. A number of Rist Family cousins have helped with their research and have shared photos.

A little History of my Site:

In 2006, I started using The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding (aka. TNG) version 5. I used it initially in a sub-directory of my first personal website domain started in 1999 and which I converted to Joomla 1.0 in 2005. In 2007, I started using a Joomla component to provide integrated login between Joomla 1.0 and TNG 5. I spent time helping in the development of an improved Joomla to TNG Bridge Component between Joomla 1.5 and TNG 7. It was during this time that I decided to create a dedicated website for my genealogy separate from my original domain - hence kuehnfamily.org.

But unfortunately once Joomla 2.5 and TNG 8 came out, this bridge was no longer functional. And I was back to non-integrated logins. In December 2014 I grew tired of the painful Joomla upgrade process, and switched to Wordpress to have an integrated login with TNG 10. But much of the initial Joomla site's structure was lost and is now in the process of being upgraded. I soon tired of trying to restore the original structure, and decided to go back to using Joomla 3.3.  I may re-add a Wordpress component to this website to get the integrated login, but for now a user will have to log in twice - to access registered Joomla Content, and also to access the login required TNG database.
